Η υπηρεσία Εσωτερικής Ασφαλείας των ΗΠΑ δοκιμάζει ένα ειδικό πρόγραμμα εφαρμογής Data Mining, το οποίο θα επιχειρήσει να εντοπίσει τρομοκράτες συνδυάζοντας τεράστιο όγκο πληροφοριών από ταξιδιώτες, όπως η πτήσεις και τα ξενοδοχεία που επιλέγουν να κλείσουν. Ένα παρόμοιο πρόγραμμα του Πενταγώνου στάματησε από το Κονγκρέσσο το 2003 εξ αιτίας ανησυχιών για την ελευθερία των πολιτών και τα προσωπικά τους δεδομένα.

The Department of Homeland Security is testing a data-mining program that would attempt to spot terrorists by combing vast amounts of information about average Americans, such as flight and hotel reservations. Similar to a Pentagon program killed by Congress in 2003 over concerns about civil liberties, the new program could take effect as soon as next year.
